Google has challenged the world’s most powerful technology company Microsoft in the terrain i.e. dominated by Microsoft which is Operating System. Google has concentrated in the area where Microsoft was feeble like search, cloud computing, web application, advertising etc.

Google revealed it in last July that it is working on a radical new operating system called Chrome OS. Just over a week ago, the product was officially launched at the company’s HQ which is in California. This has left the technology community intrigued and puzzled.

The first computer equipped with Chrome will hit the stores by the end of this year.

These will be the “netbooks” in which all the software will come from the Google via Internet. Google will also make key decisions about the hardware of these netbooks.

The Google OS strategy is based on two radical ideas. The first is that we have moved to the era where the Network is the computer and not the PC. The second radical idea is the notion that what people really need is an information appliance “that just work”.
